Winning!

06/09/29

G’day again everyone.
I’m in tokyo for a series against the big rival Giants.Well after a few days off, I’m feeling refreshed now.Especially due to finally getting out for a game of golf on our off day.I played at ABC golf course with Andy Sheets, our pitching coach Kubo and a friend of his named Ohnishi (very nice guy).Wow, what a great golf course. But too difficult for me right now.Andy and I just got new clubs (thanks to the guys who helped us out with fitting etc at MIZUNO) so we were anxious to try them out on the links. We both hit them great and are very happy with them but my putting was terrible.Something to work on during the off-season eh.afterward, we met with coach Yoshida,Darwin and Oxspring for a nice meal…suki-yaki…delicious.I think that after curry and okonomiyaki, that is my favorite japanese dish.Great off day…We are all pretty fired up right now with our great results and performance.Winning just feels so good.We expect to beat everyone every game we play. It’s a lot of fun to be a part of.Let’s hope the wave we a riding now takes us all the way to the Japan series and beyond.I’m really hoping that the Nippon ham fighters are the champion for the pacific league because a couple of my good mates and countrymen, Micheal Nakamura and Brad Thomas are on the team so I am rooting for them big time.Go boys…See you in the series. That would be a lot of fun to play against those guys for the bragging rights of Nippon ichi.Maybe get some good coverage in Australian media also.I know if we won I wouldn’t let them forget about it anytime soon.
I was able to meet up with our old friend and teammate George Arias while here in Tokyo. We ate lunch together and chatted about our families, baseball, golf, etc.we had some good laughs catching up and reliving some old tiger stories together.
I also met up with some other gaijin for diner in Jeremy Powell, Kevin Bierne and Matt Franco. It really helps out to meet with these guys from time to time so we can talk about how things are and offer advice if it’s needed. This time was also about saying see you next year. They are all leaving shortly for America.
And speaking of leaving, it’s time for me to go too…
Till next time.See you at Koshien.
Cheers,

A day in the life of Jeff

06/09/11

I thought it might interest some of you to see what I get up to on a daily basis so this is a typical example of what my routine is when we are playing at home in osaka…Here it is…
A day in the life of Jeff…
8:30am…I wake up to see that my wife is feeding my kids breakfast…They usually all get up around 7am and let daddy sleep in a little…Then we play for a bit before riley goes to school at 9:30…
11:30am…After spending some time on the internet and watching some TV….My wife, Cade and I go to a cafe for some coffee and relax outside and enjoy the weather…
1pm…We pick Riley up from school and play for a bit before I head to Koshien about 1:45…
Pactice starts at 2:45 and this entails stretching, running, some agility training, followed by long toss and sprints….After batting practice is finished I head inside for some shoulder exercise and core strengthening…
At 4:30, its lunch time….My usual meal is pork and curry with rice, apple juice and some bread…
6pm…After a shower to refresh, I tart my game preparation which includes stretching with a trainer, rubbing heat on my elbow and shoulder, and doing some fast exercises to warmup…Then I head down to the bullpen and really get my game face on…
During the 6th inning I do more stretching and play some light catch…Then I just wait for the coaches to tell me when I’m going to pitch…The phone rings and they put me in and then it’s GAME TIME… The adrenaline rush of pitching in front of the fans at koshien is just as exciting now as it was the first time I did it 4 years ago…I love it…
After the game I like to do some weight training to keep my strength up and sometimes ice my arm for recovery…
When I get home, the kids are asleep but my wife has a light meal waiting for me and afterward I relax in front of the TV to wind down before going to bed between 12 and 1…
So that is about it…I like to keep a routine as it helps to keep my mind focused and prepared each day for the game but I try to have as fun with my family as I can too…They keep me relaxed which I need…
On a different note, we have gained a little ground on the Dragons lately and I like to think that the sacrifice we made to the baseball gods has put us in their favor…Please know that we are doing everything we can to fight to the end for a championship…It has been a difficult season with all the injuries to our important players but no matter what, we will always do our best…
Till next time, see you at the ballpark
Cheers,
Jeff
